and transform it into a vibrant neighborhood hub. This renovation project pays homage to the former owner’s impact in the community and sets the stage for a fresh, community-focused space. Canfield Consortium is committed to bringing amenities back into the neighborhood, bridging the gap between what residents need but leave the neighborhood to find.

Jack’s FAQs

We are grateful for the opportunity to uplift our community and redevelop a neighborhood gem.

Canfield consortium is rebuilding Jack’s 1 Stop storefront, a former social hub of the community where the community went for a range of needs. The renovated space will be welcoming, accessible and intergenerational with an emphasis on creating a gathering space.

Closed in the early 2000’s through neighborhood disinvestment, its closing left a void in the neighborhood that has been deeply felt leaving the community with no hearth of community.

Now, Jack’s is poised to be re-opened signifying a huge step towards filling the need for a community space and home to local Black owned and operated businesses.

We are seeking to secure $250.000 in funding to support the critical stabilization and renovation of key building sections, to modernize wiring and lighting systems, and acquire necessary equipment.

Renovating the building transcends the concept of blight remediation; it’s about empowering the community, preserving its legacy, enhancing the present, and forging a path to the future. This renovation will create a neighborhood hub where residents can shop, connect, and foster a sense of community. Every dollar raised will directly contribute to the revitalization of the storefront, making this vision a reality.

Phase 1 includes:

• deconstruction
• building stabilization

Phase 2 includes:

• installation of new heating and cooling system
• upgrade the electric wiring
• create a welcoming coffee shop build out
• Prepare the remaining units with an adaptable white box design

We are grateful for the opportunity to uplift our community and redevelop a neighborhood gem on Detroit’s Eastside.

“I would go to Jack’s to buy a record, a cold pop, and snacks.  That’s why it was called Jack’s One Stop Party Store, you could get just about everything you needed there.”
